Book Quoting Social Service
“Sometimes the books speak for you”
The words are mumbling in your mind. They have no idea to come out from your brain. You just have them inside, then suddenly, you meet the right ones describing you, which were written by someone.
When I meet those words, I take pictures of the pages and write down on my diary. Sometimes I share them on my SNS. Since the other’s words speak better than I do about what I always eager to speak or who I am. This is the precious experience which the readers can have.
I wanted to make a site related to this. I was a bit tired of seeing all the images on Instagram. I wanted to collect quotes I admire and share with people. I wanted to inspire by books I never heard of.
“Quotes” started from this idea. I’ve used React and firebase. The site was published with gh-pages. It was my first time to make something more than one page with React. Using firebase was good choice since I didn’t really need to put much effort to write back-end code which I was not familiar with. Even better, setting rules of authentication and database was not so difficult for beginner developer such as myself.
In Firebase, you can use social authentication method which is ready in the console. I chose to use three sign-in methods. Google, Github and personal e-mail.
This is the page you meet when you sign in. The navigation list is always on top since you are signed in the site. In home, you can share a quote with the information of book. You can leave comment too.
When you share a quote, it will look like this. You see the name of user on top left and it gives you the posting date automatically, top right. Quote is located in under the user name with underlined. The comment will be underneath the quote section. You can delete or update the quote. When you click user’s name then you can visit their profile.
In profile page you can see the favorite writer list. You can add or delete your list.
Below the writer list, you can see the collection of the quotes they are sharing. Additionally, in your own profile you can update username and it will update every username posted on the thread already.
This is the introduction to my “Quotes” site, the quotes sharing social service. It’s prototype so I made it with firebase, however, I have a plan to develop back-end for this site :)
